Instagram is finally Blocking Fake Followers and Likes!

After Facebook’s recent ‘trust issues’, Instagram is taking its responsibilities rather seriously. This announcement comes amid growing concerns about Facebook’s security and their efforts to curb manipulation and misinformation.

Facebook has faced severe criticism for failing to keep up its confidentiality and security. A recent investigation by New York Times revealed that it ignored warnings about Russian influence campaigns and also suggested that it used a consulting firm to discredit its critics.

Instagram has begun its crackdown on fake likes, comments and followers. It is booting tailored applications and comments generated by accounts that appear to be popular.

In its recent blog post, Instagram stated that they have seen accounts using third-party apps to boost their popularity artificially.

In order to help identify such spurious apps, Instagram will make use of self-improving software programs. These programs will help in getting rid of unwanted followers that violate their terms of service.

Instagram also stated that it would notify the users about the likes, follows or comments it would remove. People whose accounts are linked to such offending apps unknowingly will then have to change their password and sever connections.

Twitter too made efforts to get rid of inauthentic accounts and resulted in reduced number of followers for a few users.

Will you want your likes and followers to reduce even though fake? What do you think?
